Luke was a solidly-built dog, moderate in height, well-angulated and well-balanced, with substantial bone and coat. Although peppered with white at 10.5 yrs of age in the photos below, in his youth Luke's coat was a rich golden blonde color. Luke's movement was effortless, yet strong and powerful. He had excellent reach and a ground-sweeping stride, and reproduced this in his offspring. Luke's head was broad with a gentle kindly expression. He had full dentition.

As lovely as he was physically, we consider Luke's most outstanding attribute to have been his flawless "Golden" temperament. Friendly, out-going but non-aggressive, wanting more than anything in the world to be with people. Luke was trustworthy with cats, puppies and young children. In his limited breedings, Luke reproduced his temperament in his offspring. At least one worked regularly as a therapy dog, visiting nursing homes, and working with autistic children.

Luke earned a Tracking Dog title. He was trained in obedience through Open, but was never shown (other than one match where he won Novice B). The first time Luke was ever shown in conformation, he won a Specialty 3-point major. In limited showing, Luke accumulated 5 championship points, including the one major and a Best of Breed win over specials.
